NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — More mass COVID-19 vaccination sites are coming to Long Island as Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a beloved summertime tradition will return this year to Jones Beach.

Speaking at a new vaccination site being set up at SUNY Old Westbury, Cuomo said two more hubs will open Friday at SUNY Stony Brook's Southampton campus and at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood.

All three sites will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be able to vaccinate more than 1,000 people daily, depending on supply.

The new sites will start taking appointments Wednesday, which is the same day that vaccine eligibility opens up for public facing essential workers.

The governor said between now and Wednesday, the priority for schedules will be for individuals 60 and older.

Cuomo, 63, also revealed that he plans to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine himself sometime this week at a pop-up center in a Black community. He did not specify when or where he will get the vaccine.

Appointments can be scheduled using New York's 'Am I Eligible' website or by calling the state's COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829).

The governor also announced that the Bethpage Air Show, which was canceled last year due to the pandemic, will be back this year for Memorial Day weekend.

The show, which typically draws hundreds of thousands of people to Jones Beach, will be a ticketed event this year with reduced capacity and social distancing measures in place. Masks will also be required.

Visitors must purchase a ticket in advance to park at Jones Beach during the show. Details on purchasing a ticket will be announced at a later date.

Parking capacity will be reduced by 50 percent, and only those with a ticket will be allowed entry.

This year's show will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog), U.S. Army Golden Knights U.S. Army parachute team, and U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue team.

The Bethpage Air Show will take place Friday, May 28, (practice show); Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day.

Individuals with appointments at the Jones Beach COVID-19 testing or vaccine sites will not be impacted, and will be able to enter through dedicated traffic lanes.
