JERSEY CITY (WCBS 880) — A swath of New Jersey was part of a major Comcast Xfinity outage Tuesday morning.

It’s unclear how widespread the cable internet outage was, but numerous New Jersey customers reported outages at downdetector.com.
The official Xfinity Support account on Twitter wrote shortly before noon that "some customers experienced intermittent service disruptions as a result of a network issue."
"We have addressed the issue and service is now restoring for impacted customers, as we continue to investigate the root cause. We apologize to those who were affected," the tweet said.
Earlier in the morning, the South Brunswick Police Department tweeted about the service disruption, warning residents, "OUTAGE: Comcast outage affecting many customers in New Jersey and beyond."
The City of Summit also tweeted, "Comcast is experiencing an outage and, as a result, internet and email is impacted at City Hall. There may be a delay in service until our internet is restored. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."
Downdetector.com’s outage map showed extensive service disruptions, as did Xfinity’s outage map.
Numerous customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware were reporting their internet, television and telephone service was out and that they were unable to reach customer service.
Xfinitiy's outage tracker also appeared to be down and was displaying an error message, NJ.com reported.
Some users were reporting that their service was returning after 9:30 a.m.
Xfinity outages have also been reported in other parts of the Northeast, Midwest and on the West Coast.
Similar problems in the San Francisco Bay Area affected tens of thousands of customers on Monday night.
