NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The NYPD is searching for a man who they said used homophobic slurs before slapping a good Samaritan who let him borrow a phone in the subway.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. on Nov. 15 on the southbound platform stairs inside the 57th Street-Seventh Avenue D train subway station in Midtown.
Authorities said the unknown man approached the victim and asked to use his cellphone.
The victim agreed and while using the phone, the man saw an image of the victim and his boyfriend.
The man proceeded to make homophobic comments and use a slur against the victim before slapping him in the face, police said. He then threw the phone to the ground and fled the scene.
Authorities said the victim sustained a swollen lip and bruising but refused medical attention.
The NYPD said the incident is being investigation as an assault as a hate crime.
