WEATHER: Rainy, cold weekend expected before weather improves for Memorial Day

NEW YORK (WBCS 880) — Rain is in the forecast for much of the Memorial Day weekend, but friends and families gathering for the unofficial start of summer will see the weather improve for the holiday on Monday.

The first round of rain arrives Friday, and showers are forecast to pop up again on Saturday and Sunday before conditions finally dry out on Memorial Day, according to AccuWeather.

Rain develops late Friday afternoon and continues, heavy at times, into the night amid a chilly wind. Lows will be 48 in the city and in the lower 40s in the suburbs.

The rain lingers into Saturday, when it will be windy and chilly. Morning showers may taper off in the afternoon. The high will be just 54, with RealFeels in the 40s much of the day.

Sunday is damp and cool with more periods if rain. Showers could be heavy near the coast. The high will approach 60.

Memorial Day will be the nicest day of the holiday weekend. Any early clouds should give way to some sun. The high will be 72 in the city, while the beaches will see temps in the upper 60s.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will be dry with highs in the upper 70s. More showers are possible Wednesday.
