NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Metro-North has suspended an employee for allegedly using a sick day to join President Donald Trump's supporters in storming to U.S. Capitol Building on Wednesday, according to reports.
The MTA, which operates Metro-North, issued a statement to The New York Post saying it has suspended 31-year-old Will Pepe, who works at the transit agency's Brewster rail yard, without pay “effective immediately.”
Pepe “will be disciplined in accordance with [Metro-North’s] collective bargaining agreement pending an investigation,” the agency added, according to the outlet.
An MTA spokesman issued a statement to the Post saying the alleged behavior “is abhorrent and goes against the values of Metro-North, New York and the nation.”
The MTA confirmed to the news outlet that Pepe still remains under investigation.
Pepe was allegedly among the Trump supporters who breached barriers at the Capitol and entered the building on Wednesday in an attempt to stop the election certification process. Photos from the Capitol Police allegedly show the 31-year-old inside the Capitol Building during the riots.
