Friday's event comes as Mr. Met pitched in on Tuesday to load bags of goods into the truck donated by loyal Mets fans like Blanca and Ray Payone of Flushing, who received a voucher for two tickets for the 2023 season.
They're some of the several fans who donated 10 items of food and, in exchange, received voucher tickets for MetsGiving.
"We're huge Met fans for years and giving, that's what it's all about," Blanca said.
The food drive has been an eight-year partnership between New York Common Pantry and the Mets and part of the team's giving initiative, according to Juliana Sabro, co-head of community engagement and foundation at the team.
"We have a food drive, a coat drive," Sabro said. "We really just want to make sure that those in need during the difficult winter months have everything they need."
Common Pantry's Executive Director Steven Grimaldi said last year that they collected 9,000 pounds of food.
"An unbelievable donation and put it right back into the pantry packages, so within three or four days we are able to distribute it," he said.
