NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A White Plains mother who tried to drown her toddler inside a homeless shelter bathtub in 2019 pleaded guilty to attempted murder last week, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced Monday.
La’Quanaya Ward, 30, pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree attempted murder, a felony, and faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison, Rocah's office said.
Officials said Ward, then a resident at the Coachman Family Center, attempted to drown her 2-year-old in a bathtub on Dec. 3, 2019, after she made online and verbal threats.
However, a fellow resident intercepted and forced her out of the bathroom allowing the child to come up for air.
The Prosecutor's Office said Ward was investigated by the county's Department of Public Safety and arrested a week later.
She is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 20, 2022.
