NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Nassau Coliseum on Long Island will become a COVID-19 vaccination site.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced the site in a statement on Saturday.
“We’re focused on continuing to ramp up our capacity for vaccinations as more supply is anticipated to arrive in the coming weeks,” Curran said. “All of our residents must have access to the COVID-19 vaccine, and this iconic site will give us the ability to deliver the vaccine rapidly.”
The New York Islanders are still playing at the arena through at least early May. However, the vaccination site will be in the exhibition hall on the lower level, according to Newsday.
It’s unclear when vaccinations will begin at the arena.
It’s the third vaccination site run by Nassau County. Sites at the Nassau Community College in Garden City and the "Yes We Can" Community Center in New Cassel are also operating.
Other sports stadiums in the New York area, including Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, are also hosting vaccination sites.
