PATERSON, NJ (WCBS 880) — Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck is investigating the death of a man following his interaction with Paterson police Saturday.

Two Paterson officers were responding to the area of 620 Madison Avenue around 5:26 p.m. on reports of a man walking on the roofs of homes as he attempted to break into them, according to Bruck’s office.
The cops at the location noticed a man at the back of the home who appeared injured and attempted to aid him.
But the man grew “agitated” and was briefly handcuffed as they placed him on a stretcher with assistance from EMS, according to a press release from Bruck’s office.
The man died about an hour later after he was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.
The AG is legally required to investigate any death involving an encounter with a police officer. No further details were immediately available.
The man’s identity has not yet been released.
