RWJBarnabas Health let go 118 people, of its 35,000 employees, for their refusal to comply with its Oct. 15 deadline. Still, the system said 99.7% complied or were granted an exception as of Friday.

"Regrettably, and despite all best efforts, 118 staff members have not complied with the mandate and are no longer employees of RWJBarnabas Health, per our vaccine mandate policy," a spokesperson said in a statement to NJ.com. "Sixty-two of those staff members were per-diem employees who worked occasional shifts across our organization."

Although the system has dozens of facilities, the system assured it will not affect its patient operations.

"Given the overall number of staff who have been separated from the organization is distributed across our numerous facilities, job types and work shifts, patient care will not be affected nor will there be any impact on the normal operations of our services," the system said.

The group has had a strict purview of its mandates, previously laying off six employees who refused its supervisor vaccine mandate in July.

New York State's largest healthcare system, Northwell Health, took the same action against staffers who didn't comply with its mandate — firing 1,400 employees earlier this month.
