NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A man followed a married couple out of a Bronx subway station before stabbing the husband and pushing the wife down a flight of stairs, police said Thursday as they released surveillance images of a suspect.

It all started when a man who was acting belligerent got into an argument with the couple on a northbound 4 train in Manhattan on Tuesday evening, police said.

The husband and wife got off the train at the E. 170th Street station in the Bronx and were followed by the man, according to police.

The 37-year-old husband was punched in the back of the head by the man, who then took out a knife and began stabbing him, police said.

The man pushed the 33-year-old wife down a flight of stairs when she tried to intervene, according to police.

The husband suffered stab wounds to his arm and body, while the wife suffered injuries to her right leg and the right side of her body.

EMS took the couple to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

Police are searching for the assailant, who fled on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
