NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An NYPD officer was arrested on Monday for allegedly fleeing the scene of a car crash in Brooklyn while on duty on Saturday, police confirmed with 1010 WINS/WCBS 880.
Michael Cruz, 29, whose role in driving the vehicle was not immediately clear, was involved in a car crash within the NYPD’s 88th Precinct at around 9 p.m., police said. The 88th Precinct serves a northern portion of Brooklyn including Clinton Hill, Fort Greene Park, and Commodore Barry Park.
After the crash, Cruz allegedly fled the scene without reporting it, according to the NYPD. He is now facing charges for leaving the scene of an accident.
An investigation is ongoing.
Neither the city's police union nor an attorney for Cruz could be immediately reached for comment on Monday.
Cruz was suspended without pay, according to reports.
