NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A woman was slapped in the head and told “you don’t belong here” in a possible anti-Asian hate crime on a Brooklyn subway train, police said Wednesday.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the April 19 attack on a southbound D train near the Ninth Avenue station in Sunset Park.
Police said a 50-year-old woman was sitting on the train when a woman came up to her around 4:15 p.m. and said, “Get off my train, you don't belong here.”
The woman then slapped the victim in the back of the head, according to police.
The victim was not injured and left the train at the Ninth Avenue station. Police said the suspect got off at the same station.
The NYPD said the suspect is believed to be about 18 years old. The department released a surveillance image of her on Wednesday.
