NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The New York City Sheriff’s Office is continuing to crack down on hundreds of drivers allegedly using fake, paper license plates.
The sheriff says since June, deputy sheriffs have seized 238 vehicles and issued over 200 traffic summonses. A total of 21 people have been charged in connection to the counterfeit plates.
That number was significantly bumped up Friday morning, when deputies seized 53 cars as part of Operation “Con-Temporary,” according to The New York Post.
The Post says the crackdown has spanned various parts of Queens, with help from federal officials, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and even San Antonio police.
Earlier this week, the sheriff’s Twitter account documented alleged illegally parked tractor trailers, as well as tractor trailers with the illegal plates on the Horace Harding Expressway.
