Police sergeant's retirement party under investigation in Southold

SOUTHOLD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office and the Town of Southold are investigating a retirement party for a police sergeant that was held earlier this year, according to a Newsday report.

Photos from the party at a farm in Southold were all over social media back in May. It showed people partying under tents with no mask wearing. Some attendees were pictured standing cheek to cheek.

Residents said they notified the police to try to get the party broken up, but claim their calls were ignored.

Multiple reports say there were more than 50 people at the party, even though the governor's orders at the time capped gatherings at 10 people.

The town's supervisor did not return WCBS 880's request for comment.
