Propane tanks burst into flames after truck overturns on Long Island Expressway in Queens

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — An overnight crash on the Long Island Expressway in Queens caused a tanker truck to flip over, triggering an explosion of the propane tanks it was carrying.

Police said the truck was cut off by another driver on the westbound lanes near Woodhaven Boulevard around midnight and overturned as it tried to avoid the vehicle.

The truck driver managed to escape the fiery crash with just minor injuries.

The expressway was closed for hours.

WABC-TV reports the truck was carrying nearly 300 propane tanks. Two other vehicles, including a postal truck, were damaged by the flames.
