LONG BEACH, N.J. (WCBS 880) – Reports that a small plane had crashed off Long Beach Island, New Jersey, on Thursday morning were "unfounded," officials said after emergency crews responded to the shore in search of the aircraft.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office said earlier that they received a report of a small plane down off 26th Street in Long Beach around 11:30 a.m.

About two hours later, the office said the reports were "unfounded."

Emergency crews had responded to the scene in search of a downed aircraft.

Video showed boats circling an area off the coast, and the Coast Guard said it was also involved in the search.
