Uber driver carjacked while waiting for passenger in the Bronx

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police say an Uber driver was carjacked while waiting to pick up a passenger in the Bronx late last month.

The incident happened back on Nov. 27 on East 197th Street in Morningside Heights.

The 63-year-old driver was waiting for his fare around 3:40 a.m. when a man walked up to the driver’s side window and simulated a firearm that was covered in a dark bag.

The suspect pressed the purported firearm against the victim’s chest pulled him from the car before taking off in the 2011 Honda CRV with license plate number T623343C.

The vehicle was last seen heading northbound on Decatur Avenue. It’s not clear if the car was recovered.

The victim’s cellphones and wallet were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The driver was not injured.

Police have released surveillance video of the suspect prior to the incident.

The NYPD describes the suspect as a light-skinned male believed to be in his mid-20s. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black sneakers, black gloves, red hat, light-colored mask and was carrying a large red and black travel bag.
