VIDEO: MTA train operator saves black cat from tracks

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A fast-acting MTA train operator saved a black cat from the tracks in a viral video.

A 2 train operator sprung to action Thursday when he somehow spotted the black cat on the tracks at the Times Square station complex, stopping his train in time to move the cat onto the platform.

A witness posted a video of the incident on Twitter, showing the seemingly terrified cat clinging to the platform.

“On a day I thought everybody in this city is rude, show-off and insincere, i get to see a whole train stopped half way into the station while people clap appreciative, when the @MTA @NYCTSubway [operator] gets to the rails to rescue an unaware cat with his colleagues & the public,” the witness tweeted.

The incident evoked the notorious comments from then-mayoral candidate Joe Lhota, who in 2013 criticized the MTA for stopping servie in order to rescue kittens from subway tracks.

The MTA praised its operator for stepping in.

“This kitty might have used one of its 9 lives last night but was saved by our quick-thinking train operator,” the MTA’s official subway account tweeted. “Gotta love a happy ending.”
