NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 60-year-old woman was fatally struck by an unlicensed hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn Wednesday, police said.
The victim, Elizabeth Perez, was crossing the street at the intersection of Dahill Road and 63rd Street in Bensonhurst around 10 p.m. when police said she was struck by a 2005 Acura TSX.
Perez was found by police and EMS lying on the roadway with head and body trauma.
She was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said the driver of the car was heading northbound on Dahill Road when he crossed over the double yellow lines separating the north and southbound lanes, striking Perez with the passenger-side front of the vehicle and leaving the location without stopping.
Perez was not within a designated crosswalk area when the crash occurred, police said.
Yerlin Garcia's car was subsequently recovered in a nearby vicinity of Dahill Road. He was taken into custody and subsequently arrested.
The 24-year-old is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, aggravated unlicensed operator of a vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
