YONKERS, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Bronx woman has been charged for the murder of her girlfriend after her body was found in a remote part of Yonkers nearly a decade ago.

Wanda Veguilla, 40, was arrested this week in the August 2012 killing of her girlfriend, Pamela Graddick, Yonkers Police said.
Veguilla allegedly shot Graddick in the apartment they shared with Veguilla’s kids in the Bronx. She was shot in the head, with cops thinking she might’ve been asleep at the time.
The charges came after she was interviewed by police over the weekend, according to LoHud.com, and ultimately confessed.
Graddick was 26 when she was last seen on surveillance footage on her way home from shopping with friends.
Weeks later, a Yonkers resident reported a bad smell in a wooded area near the Sprain Brook Parkway. It was there that Graddick’s body was found.
Authorities said phone data from Graddick disputed Veguilla’s alibi that she was away on the weekend her girlfriend was reported missing, according to LoHud.
“Wanda was a suspect for quite some time in this case,” Yonkers Police Deputy Chief Joseph Monaco told CBS2. "She sat in our detective division and after a lengthy interview eventually confessed to the crime.”
Police also arrested Veguilla’s alleged accomplice, John Torres, 30, with criminal facilitation, hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence, according to CBS. Authorities had suspected someone helped in disposing of the body.
Yonkers Police Det. John Geiss pushed his retirement back months to fulfill the promise he gave to Graddick's family that his team would close the case, according to News 12 Westchester.
