Woman fatally struck by e-bike while crossing Queens street

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A 54-year-old woman was fatally struck by an e-bike as she was crossing a street in Queens last week.

Police said Kelly Killian was in the crosswalk at 21st Avenue and 31st Street in Astoria around 8:40 p.m. Friday when she was struck by an e-bike being operated by a 26-year-old deliveryman.

Killian suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

WCBS-TV reports Killian, a real estate broker, was walking with a friend to get dinner when she was struck.

The deliveryman remained on the scene and has not been charged.

The investigation is ongoing.

New York City legalized e-bikes in November.

Killian is the second pedestrian to be killed in an e-bike crash since then.

In April, a 71-year-old Brooklyn man was fatally struck by an e-bike while attempting to cross the street on Amsterdam Avenue and West 78th Street on the Upper West Side.
