Police said a 56-year-old woman was walking in front of the Fort Greene store at 123 Flatbush Ave. around 8 a.m. when the man tried hitting her.

The woman tried to defend herself by blocking the punches with her umbrella, and during the course of the fracas, a liquor bottle dropped on the ground, according to police.

The man then allegedly picked up the broken bottle and stabbed the woman in the back.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a laceration but is in stable condition, police said.

Police said the suspect fled the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

The incident occurred hours before the store’s opening at 10 a.m.
