It all started when Quanmik Wells, 32, and a Queens woman, Kiara Cooper, 22, got into an argument with two women on a NICE bus near West Merrick Road and Arlington Avenue in Valley Stream around 3:15 p.m., according to Nassau County police.
During the dispute, Cooper allegedly pulled a knife and threatened the two women, who flagged down police. Cooper was arrested, but while she was being taken into custody, Wells continued to threaten the two women and ignored officers’ verbal commands, police said.
Officers tried to place Wells into custody, but he physically resisted. Police said his “combative behavior” injured an officer, who suffered lacerations, swelling and pain to his right hand.
The officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
After Wells was arrested, police allegedly found he had 41 plastic capsules containing a white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Wells faces charges of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Cooper face charges of menacing, harassment, criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct.
Both Wells and Cooper also face a charge of endangering the welfare of a child, as Cooper’s 6-year-old son was present during the altercation. Police said the boy was released into the custody of a family member.
Wells and Cooper were scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
