TEANECK, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A fire in Teaneck, New Jersey early Monday morning left multiple people, who were stuck in the basement, injured, officials said.

The fire occurred at 850 Palisade Ave. at about 12:30 a.m., and the Teaneck Police Department, Teaneck Fire Department and Hackensack Fire Department responded, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities said that during fire suppression, firefighters found multiple residents trapped in the house’s basement. The exact number of victims is unclear.

Georgia, a neighbor and retired nurse, watched from across the street and told 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 that the injuries looked bad.

“Somebody on a stretcher, holding their head and rocking around, and people running to them. I think it was quite serious," she said.

All victims were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department.

Police closed Palisade Avenue for hours as the investigation began.
