Minnesotans take pride in braving the cold for fun, outdoor winter events, but even here, there is such a thing as too cold.

The St. Paul Winter Carnival is cancelling the Moon Glow Parade due to wind chills of 25-below zero in the forecast for the kickoff event Thursday evening. Activities at Kellogg Mall Park are cancelled Thursday, so organizers are inviting attendees to the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul for opening night. Friday's events at the Vulcan Snow Park at the state fairgrounds have also been cancelled.

Organizers say -25 degree wind chills are the cut-off for cancelling events, but the weather could prove to be uncooperative at times over the course of the 11-day carnival with arctic air expected to stick around for about a week.

"Wednesday may be the coldest day of the winter," WCCO Radio host and meteorologist Paul Douglas said. "Waking up to 16-below, a high of minus-6 in the Twin Cities."

Around 250,000 people are expected to attend, but that estimate is before the frigid forecast.
