A 25-year-old man is in jail Thursday morning after being accused of breaking into two Brooklyn Park homes in less than a week and sexually assaulting two women.
Police arrested the suspect around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the 7600 block of Hampshire Avenue, hours after sharing they'd created a "task force" to find the individual.
Police say they canvassed 40 blocks, going door-to-door looking for information.
BCA Superintendent Drew Evans spoke after the arrest.
"This police department came together quickly, formed a task force quickly, and put dozens of investigators, analysts, and scientists on this case," Evans explains. "This is an example of police departments knowing, understanding their community, and the experience that the investigators have."
The most recent assault was Wednesday morning. Police say the suspect lived near both of the victims, and had been released from prison earlier this month.
"You know, there's a lot of things about this that really bother me the nature of the crime," Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley said. "The way that our victims were approached in the middle of the night in their homes, the sexual assault with a gun by an individual who lives right next door, and just got out of prison."
Bruley says a sergeant within the police department helped lead them to the suspect.
"He was aware of an individual that Brooklyn Park Police Department has had contacts with in the past, who exhibited similar behavior many years ago of breaking into the homes of victims," Bruley added. "That sergeant was also aware that this suspect had just been released from prison on July 7th."
