Last week in a series of tweets, the former Minnesota Governor talked about his "disgust" with both the Republican and Democratic parties. Ventura said, "I keep getting asked who I’m voting for, if I’m going to endorse anyone, if I’m going to run. Let me be clear: I have ZERO confidence in Democrats and Republicans. I refuse to vote for 'the lesser of two evils' because in the end, that’s still choosing evil."
Ventura then expressed his support and his intention to vote for the Green Party candidates. "That doesn’t mean I won’t be voting. If you want to know my 'down ballot' it’s the Green Party. I’m voting Green all the way and if you’re looking to me for guidance, then do some research. Look into who is running GREEN in your state and VOTE THEM IN."
The Green Party promotes green politics, specifically environmentalism, along with supporting issues around social justice, gender equality, LGBTQ rights, anti-racism and ecosocialism. Ralph Nadar famously ran under the Green Party in the 2000 Election, which many Democrats say "spoiled" the election of former Vice President Al Gore.
Ventura also clarified his views on climate change, clearly one of the tentpole issues for the Green Party. "I haven’t filed to run, but I’ve covered climate change many times on The World According to Jesse. Climate change is real. It isn’t a belief...it’s science. It’s a major reason why I vote GREEN party."
Ventura was the 38th Governor of Minnesota from 1999-2003. He was the first Independent candidate to win the state's highest office in 1998 and famously declared that his win "shocked the world." As Governor, Ventura issued the state's first sales tax rebate. He was a champion for tax reform during his time but is credited with leaving the state in financial crisis after he left office.
