Federal employees on furlough can now get some free culture. The Minnesota Orchestra is offering two complimentary tickets to government workers waiting-out the shutdown.

Orchestra President and CEO, Michelle Miller Burns said last Friday, Herb Winslow, a horn player with the orchestra, emailed her about the idea.

“He said, ‘how about if we do something like this and make this music available as a way to help ease burdens of our federal employees at this time?’ and I thought it was a terrific idea!” said Miller Burns. “We moved quickly to be able to make it happen.”

Miller Burns said the two complimentary tickets could be used for any upcoming classical concerts and can be obtained on their website.

The Science Museum of Minnesota is also offering free admission to furloughed federal workers. President Alison Rempel Brown said the idea came after seeing another museum in Texas offer free admission.

“We have government contracts our self that we get for our science education and equity… let’s show them that we care about them in this time,” said Rempel Brown.

Rempel Brown said federal employees simply have to bring their badge the museum to get free admission for themselves and for three others.

This is the longest government shutdown in U.S. History.
