Remember how Minnesota January's are supposed to feel? It's about to hit us square in the face.

Meteorologist Jim Taggert with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen says we've been spoiled most of this winter with above normal temperatures, but no more.

After five straight days with highs in the 30s, we might not reach that for the rest of the month. He says the frigid cold will start Friday and continue through the weekend.

"A little bit of snow along the Iowa border, followed by a lot of cold air," Taggert said. "We'll definitely get below zero in some areas, teens to 20-below zero in the west and north."

The metro will break the record for the latest date before reaching a sub-zero temperature when it finally dips that low overnight Saturday.

Looking ahead, Taggert says we are going to be colder than normal through January and early February.
