Spielman on WCCO: Trying to finalize Rudolph contract extension on Tuesday

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said the team is close to reaching a contract extension with tight end Kyle Rudolph.

Late Monday night, Rudolph tweeted a message that states he's honored to say that his home will always be Minnesota.

Rudolph was set to become a free agent next year, and there were reports the Vikings were shopping him around earlier this year.

During that time, Rudolph was saying he wanted to stay in Minnesota, but would not take a pay cut.

The Vikings selected Rudolph with the 43rd overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft following his junior season at Notre Dame.

In 112 regular season games, Rudolph has 386 catches for 3,787 yards and 41 touchdowns. Those numbers rank him among the top 15 tight ends in the NFL.

He's played every game for the Vikings since the 2015 season.

Rudolph has been selected to play in the Pro Bowl twice, and was MVP of the game after the 2012 season.
