Duke super freshman Zion Williamson is the star of the show, but there are other players who'll suit up Friday when the Blue Devils take on North Dakota State in Friday's 1-16 matchup in the NCAA tournament.
Five of them are from Minnesota.
"I'm very excited to be here," Williamson said, "because I watched March Madness as a little kid, and to actually be here ... I couldn't ask for a better situation."
Lest anyone think differently, the Bison know what they're up against.
"We're aware. We're human," said North Dakota State guard Vinnie Shahid, who played prep basketball at Hopkins alongside Gopher forward Amir Coffey. "Anybody that doesn't think about it or tells you they don't think about it, they're lying to you, because we're human and we do think about it. At the end of the day, the ball goes up and it tips, it's something we've all been doing our whole lives, 40 minutes goes on the clock and it's a basketball game."
There's several more Minnesota connections in the first-round game in Columbia, SC.
ND State's roster features three more Minnesota high school products: Jarius Cook of Park Center, Odel Wilson of Minneapolis North, and Rocky Kreuser of Totino-Grace.
For the Dukies, yet another Jones from Minnesota.
Tre Jones made the jump from starring with Apple Valley last spring to a major part of the Blue Devils' quest to win their third national title in Minnesota in as many tries.
Jones' brother Tyus is now with the Timberwolves after winning the Most Outstanding Player Award of the 2015 Final Four, the last time Duke won the national crown.
