A Minnesota swimmer is the new fastest woman in the water, even though she's still only a teenager.
17-year old Regan Smith of Lakeville stunned the swimming world Friday by smashing the world record in the 200-meter backstroke.

July 26, 2019 Smith won the semifinal heat at the World Championships in South Korea, and Saturday (6 AM Minnesota time) she'll try for the title.
The soon-to-be senior at Lakeville North set the record at 2:03:35, more than a half-second faster than the previous record set by Missy Franklin at the 2012 Olympic games in London.
Franklin, the five-time Olympic gold medalist, tweeted her congratulations to Smith.
I truly couldn’t be happier seeing my World Record go to someone who I believe at the bottom of my heart is one of the greatest inspirations and kindest humans in the world. Congrats my dear @reganesmith4 -- Thank you. For sharing your gift with us. You’re beyond a joy to watch.
