The gun violence in St. Paul continued Wednesday afternoon after two shootings left a teen dead and another person injured.
St. Paul police were called to a home at around 3:30 p.m. on the report of an accidental shooting on the 100 block of East Annapolis Street. Police say medics pronounced the teen dead at the scene. Reports indicate that the teen was a senior football player at Henry Sibley High School.
"If somebody kills someone else, it's a homicide," St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders said. "We view this as a homicide investigation. The circumstances will come out once we establish more facts."
WCCO TV reports that teens were playing with a gun inside the home when it went off, however that has not been confirmed by investigators. It's the city's 28th homicide of the year.
"This underscores the need for us as a community to come together to end gun violence of any kind," Linders said. "Whether that's securing your weapons inside your home, making sure they're not stolen, or calling us if you know who's carrying guns illegally in the city or who is shooting them."
Linders says that through November 2018, 135 people had been shot in the city. That number this year stands at 145.
