Minnesota's oldest and largest Fourth of July celebration announced changes to its annual celebration on Tuesday.

The Delano Fourth of July celebration dates back to July 4, 1857 and features a massive parade, concerts, a carnival, legion baseball tournament, and fireworks.

Due to COVID-19 uncertainty, the Fourth of July committee decided against having the parade and park activates during the event scheduled July 1-4.

"With all the uncertainty and impending deadlines to commit to the vendors, food, beverage and entertainment, the Committee does not feel that making a large financial commitment is prudent for the perpetuation of the event for generations to come," Tuesday's statement read.

Despite the lack of usual events, the celebration will still include a fireworks display.

"People won't have to come to a location to see the fireworks," said committee char Alex Roeser. "They'll be able to walk out on the front steps, go out on their back porch, and be with their families. We just felt that by the time we get to the Fourth of July, our community is going to need something positive, to lift their spirits, and to look at and think 'Oh, awesome! The Fourth of July!"
