Concordia College in Moorhead is defending a Martin Luther King Jr. Day session titled "How to embrace your inner racist: A session for white people."
An online description says "attendees will be able to recognize and acknowledge that there is a nasty little racist inside them."
Karl Stumo, Concordia’s Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing, said the description was mean t to provoke discussions.
“The session was designed to be able to have a discussion with people who don't have an understanding of their own cultural biases or cultural privileges to be able to ask those tough questions of themselves,” Stumo told KFGO Radio. “Now, was the description provocative? Certainly it was, but that's the nature of the session that was designed to be delivered.”
The session was moderated by Dr. Ahmed Afzaal, an associate professor of religion. The description says the session was intended for "white people only" but anyone was welcome to attend
