The family of a 22-Year-Old Richfield murder victim is demanding reforms to dating app's after a tragic 'rejection killing'.
Wearing matching dragonfly pins the grieving family of Kayli Arseth addressed the public following the sentencing of her killer, 28-year-old Jose Luis Lopez Xique, to life in prison without parole.
Arseth met Lopez Xique on Hinge, where she eventually declined a romantic relationship with him, Xique then tracked her down using paid people-search websites and shot her in the head inside her apartment.
Arseth's older sister Heather addressed the public after the sentencing.
" This was a revenge killing," said Heather, " men who try to control women to be what they want them to be for themselves should get stiffer sentences."
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty also weighed in on the case.
" This calls out for, if a man in this situation is told no that means no, and that simply didn't happen here."
Prosecutors re now bracing for a likely appeal in the case, but Moriarty says she’s confident the sentence will stand.
Arseth's family says they hope to raise awareness about her case to warn other's about the dangers of stalking.
