Former US Senator Al Franken was interviewed Thursday night by Conan O'Brien, his first appearance on late-night television since he resigned his post nearly two years ago.
Franken told O'Brien that he had no choice but to step down following accusations from several woman of improper contact
"My committee work would be at risk, basically losing that," Franken said. "My staff would be isolated, and I just couldn's serve the people of Minnesota. Tremendous amount of pressure. I don't think I had any other choice."
Franken's appearance with O'Brien, who was a writer on Saturday Night Live along with the former Senator, lasted for nearly half of the 30-minute show on TBS, and lacked its trademark humorous tone.

"After all these allegations came in, I thought, well, I must be doing something wrong," said Franken. "Ever since, I've been a lot more mindful in my interactions with pretty much everyone."
Earlier this week, Franken announced he would be launching a new radio show on Sirius X-M Radio beginning Saturday.
