He's been named the 2019 Spirit Award winner, given to college football's most inspirational figure. He'll receive it at the College Football Awards Dec. 12 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
The Cretin-Derham Hall grad who made his Gopher debut last month was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer in high school. O'Brien announced on social media Monday that he's scheduled to undergo another surgery after doctors found a spot on one of his lungs.
