A group of several hundred protesters rallied at the state capitol in St. Paul, then marched down University Avenue, following the Wednesday announcement in Kentucky that no officer was indicted by a grand jury in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

The 26-year-old EMT and aspiring nurse was shot by police on March 13 as Louisville police executed a "no-knock" warrant as she was in her bed according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her family. Like George Floyd's death, Breonna Taylor's became a rallying cry by protesters calling for police accountability and defunding police.

"We need to put an end to no-knock warrants immediatwly. Breonna Taylor should be alive today," a protester at the St. Paul rally said.

"Supposedly the laws are supposed to protect the citizens and they haven't been," Army veteran Maurice Perkins said.

They gathered and marched with an all-too-familiar anguished, mournful plea.

"We're here to put an end to systemic racism and white supremacy especially when it results in death," a protester said.

Former Louisville Police detective Brett Hankison was indicted on a charge of "wanton endangerment" for firing at other people's apartments nearby.
