'It's just tabloid stuff' Keith Ellison defends Ilhan Omar against affair allegations

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is weighing in on the latest controversy surrounding Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

“I don’t think it’s valid. I would caution people to even believe it,” Ellison told News Talk 830 WCCO host Chad Hartman.

Ellison went to say that people often use divorce proceedings to pursue their own interests, though the couldn't say if that was happening in this case.

"I'm just saying, look before you leap on this one. And the real answer is ixnd I would just not deal with it," Ellison added.

In a divorce filing, a Washington D-C doctor claims her husband, a Democratic political consultant, has been having an affair with Omar.

“I would just say it is an unfortunate situation, and I would urge people to focus on the issues, and this doesn’t appear to be one of them and that’s my take on it.”

Omar told WCCO's Esme Murphy on Tuesday that she's not separated from her husband and isn't seeing anyone.

"No, I am not. Like I said on Monday, I really have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue," Omar said.

Ellison also defended Omar’s interest in international issues, pointing out that she is on the foreign relations committee.
