June 24, 2020 Due to the state's Stay at Home order caused by COVID-19, DPS-DVS says staff could not process registration requiring additional processing. Additional processing is needed for mailed-in renewals that included payment for the wrong amount, required an address change, or had missing information.
DPS-DVS has alerted law enforcement about the issue and that Minnesotans affected by the delay will have verification letters to carry with them in their vehicle. Those letters will be emailed to impacted people and will expire on August 31.
DPS-DVS believes they will mail all delayed registration tabs within four to six weeks.
Since January, DPS-DVS says they've processed approximately 94,000 mailed-in registrations each month. DPS-DVS processed approximately 54,000 mailed-in registrations per month last year.
