A 19-year-old Minnesota National Guard soldier died Wednesday at a South Carolina training facility, according to a military official.
The soldier was found unresponsive during morning wakeup at a Fort Jackson field location and was later pronounced dead at Providence Hospital. The soldier was part of the 3rd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment.
Fort Jackson is a U.S. Army Training Center and the Army's biggest center for Initial Entry Training, also known as basic training.
The soldier will be identified following notification to family members.
It's the second tragedy to strike the Minnesota National Guard in the past six weeks, with three soldiers having died in a helicopter crash in Minnesota last month.
