MPLS Park and Rec Board: Golf courses are not open during COVID-19 pandemic

Empty Golf Course

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board seems to be battling a bit of a problem as people look to grab some fresh air during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board operates seven golf courses across the city, all of witch are closed until further notice due to state recommendations and the Stay At Home order to take effect at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

Unfortunately, a lot of people aren't taking those closures to heart.

In a message about the issue, a Minneapolis Park and Recreation spokesperson said, "Golf courses are not open and we do not want people walking on them as our golf staff are preparing them to open as soon as we are able. Also, there is a problem with people walking their pets and not cleaning up after them."

That problem escalated on Thursday when golf staff at Hiawatha Golf Club picked up "pounds and pounds of dog poop" at the course. Workers also witnessed dozens of dogs being allowed to urinate on the greens.

Minneapolis parks are open during the Stay at Home order and people are encouraged to grab fresh air when they can, as long as they stick to social distancing recommendations.

In fact, the Park and Recreation Board is helping with the social distancing movement and encouraging people to get outdoors.
