The Minnesota State High School League Monday morning approved a plan to start the volleyball season early next month.
The decision comes after the league had pushed volleyball back to a spring season because of coronavirus concerns.
Under the new fall season, a ten-day volleyball practice period at all Minnesota high schools can begin on Sept. 28.
The first matches take place on Oct. 8, and all teams would have a 14 dual match schedule that would last 11 weeks.
The high school league board of directors is also considering bringing prep football back for a fall season.
Under that plan, football practice would start Sept. 28, followed by a ten-week season ending Nov. 28.
Teams would play six regular-season games beginning the weekend of Oct. 9-10.
A postseason format for football is not finalized.
This comes after a survey taken by 394 Minnesota high schools showed 76 percent in favor of a fall volleyball season, and 80 percent in favor of a fall football season.
The decision to postpone volleyball and football was made in August, with the MSHSL board allowing soccer, cross country, girl's tennis and girl's swimming to continue in the fall.
