The next generation of "hot rodders" are taking the wheel at this weekends massive 'Back to the Fifties' car show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for a 52nd year.

Organizers are highlighting a relatively new dedicated showcase for custom car builders under 30-years-old in an effort to pass the torch to a new generation of hobbyists.

27-year-old Connor Kujak is displaying his 1960 Buick Invicta.

"I've seen kind of a trend downwards as far as the interest, and so I think they're really trying to get people interested," Kujak explains. "And I'm hoping that I can help along with that.

Event volunteer Dale Solstrom says they will be on display too.

"Young people will have a secure spot for their cars to be placed," he says. "There will probably be about 9,500 cars."

Solstrom says the Minnesota Street Rod Association is watching to see if these younger drivers can successfully carry on the interest in the historic event.

Despite his young age, Kujak has spent nearly a decade working on his 1969 Buick.

"Eight year restoration on it and so I've been enjoying it for the last couple of years," Kujak said. "I've received a lot of help from the MSRA members and now that I have that knowledge, I definitely equally want to share with other young riders on how to get into the hobby."

Organizers say they are expecting 70,000 spectators this weekend.
