"We are not your mascots" is the rallying cry of protesters at US Bank Stadium, calling out the Washington Redskins nickname at a march and demonstration before the Vikings' Thursday Night Football matchup with Washington.
The last such protest in 2014 drew at least 3,000 people.
Henry Boucha, Vice President of the National Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media, says the painful history of Native Americans cannot be forgotten or ignored.
"It's derogatory, denigrating for the American Indian people and all indigenous people throughout the country," he said.
The Minnesota Vikings assisted in facilitating the demonstration and leaders say they’re also helping to schedule face to face meetings with NFL executives about the name.
