Saint Paul Police investigating 16th homicide of the year

One person is dead after being shot following a large fight outside several St. Paul businesses Saturday morning.

Saint Paul Police responded to a fight just after 1 a.m. outside a strip mall on the 100 block of Larpenteur Ave West. When police arrived, nearly 50 vehicles were spotted leaving the scene. A short time later, police stopped a vehicle they believed had been at scene and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The woman, who hasn't been identified by police, died at the scene.

No arrests have been made as of yet. Saint Paul Police Sgt. Mike Ernster told reporters Saturday that witnesses need to come forward in order to help move the investigation along.

"We know there we up to 50 people, at least, in that parking lot," Ernster said. "At this point, we have not heard from any of them."

It's the 16th homicide of the year in St. Paul, up from 10 at this point one year ago.
