In keeping with the Winter Carnival tradition, St. Paul is adding more winter fun events, since it was always the plan to make CHS Field a year-round destination.

Starting Dec. 6, Winter Skate will move from the Landmark Plaza to give the winter carnival more space. It’ll offer the same events like broomball, skating lessons, youth hockey and daily skating.

"We know that we have seasons and we know that's a great thing for us," Mayor Melvin Carter said. "We like to get out into the winter and enjoy it. Every year 25,000 people come out and enjoy Winter Skate."

The super slide, which made its debut during the super bowl, will return. Carter says he will, like then, challenge Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to another race.

The final day of what officials are dubbing "Destination Winter St. Paul," Feb. 22, coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice hockey game when Team USA defeated the Soviets. There will be a parade and commemorative event celebrating it.
