Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco is slated to bat ninth for the American League against the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Polanco, who leads Twins regulars in batting average, hits, triple, and runs scored, is playing in his first All-Star Game, and was voted as the AL's starting shortstop in the fan balloting.
Joining Polanco on the AL roster are Twins teammates and pitchers Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi.
This is the second All-Star selection for Berrios, who's 8-5 with a 3.00 ERA, while Odorizzi won't play because of a blister on his pitching hand.
Odorizzi also has eight wins for the Twins, who lead the AL Central by 5 1/2 games over Cleveland and have one of baseball's best records at the break at 56-33.
Here are the batting orders for the 90th meeting between the best players of the AL and NL:
Home field advantage in the World Series is not on line in Tuesday's game. That element was taken out of the All-Star Game after the 2016 season.
This is the first All-Star Game in an American League ballpark since the Twins hosted the 2014 game at Target Field.
In the all-time series, dating back to the first All-Star Game in 1933, the AL has a slim 44-43-2 edge.
The 2020 All-Star Game takes place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
